Dayna Kathan Won't Return To 'Vanderpump Rules'

Another day, another Vanderpump Rules cast shakeup. On Saturday, April 17, Dayna Kathan quietly announced she won't return to Vanderpump Rules for Season 9, making her the sixth Season 8 cast member to say goodbye to SUR for good.

Dayna first told fans she wasn't coming back in her Instagram comments, responding to a fan who commented asking about the new season. "I'm not returning," she wrote in response. "But excited to see next szn!" She later elaborated a bit more in the comments section of the fan account @_surrules, thanking them for their support. "It was the right decision for me, I'm hapier than I've been in a long time," she wrote in part. "And thank you to everyone else who supported me!!!!! you guys rock and i love you." Finally, she sent one last message to any haters, declaring, "if you didn't support me, suck an egg lol love and light to all. xo"

Finally, on Monday , April 19, Dayna released an official statement, telling E! News, "It was a tough decision for me but ultimately the right one. I'm grateful for the experience and wish everyone on the show all the best!"

Dayna's exit was unexpected, but also not all that surprising. Vanderpump Rules has been practically bleeding cast members since last June. Thanks to COVID-19 delays and a handful of cast members being fired for past tweets and racist behavior, fans were already expecting a very different Season 9. Dayna's recent decision just makes that even more clear.

The one-season cast member was far from a Pump Rules staple, but she made some major waves in Season 8, specifically due to her relationship with Max Boyens(who was fired last summer for past racist tweets), and her on and off-camera feud with Scheana Shay (they have since buried the hatchet).

Luckily for Bravo, it looks like they'll have plenty of time to hire Dayna's replacement — and ones for Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright, Stassi Schroeder, and Kristen Doute. Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules is still in limbo, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to force closures and decreased capacity among restaurants. Lisa Vanderpump herself told E! News that she wanted SUR to be at "50% capacity" before they start production. What better time to start casting than now, in between seasons? Unless, it's time to end the show instead.
