For the first summer in three years, Hannah Berner isn't spending her weekends escaping to the Hamptons to be filmed making jokes, picking fights, and partying the nights away. After a disastrous final season on Summer House, she's moving on from reality TV to focus on her stand-up comedy. But, just because she's not filming the show doesn't mean she doesn't have something to say about her former co-stars. In fact, in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hannah accused her Summer House co-stars of actively sabotaging her.
Hannah is currently focusing on her stand-up comedy tour, "The Housebroken Tour," and while she used the interview to tease her show and how her fiancé Des Bishop affected her set, Hannah also dropped some major Summer House bombs. Here's what you need to know.
On Her Summer House Co-Stars Conspiring Against Her
Reflecting on her final season, Hannah said, "It was a scary time for me. It got to the point where I found out that cast members were becoming friends with hateful Twitter accounts and bloggers and Reddit, and it was just a really hard time knowing that people were purposely having hate campaign against you."
Hannah didn't name names, but she did make clear that returning to Summer House right now was not an option. "Long story short, it became kind of not a safe space for me to do my comedy and have fun while also being entertaining," she said. "I want to make people laugh. I want to make people happy. I don't want to be in a place of a cyberbullying situation."
On Going To Therapy Following Season 5
At the Summer House Season 5 reunion, Hannah's cast mates confronted her about things she'd said about them on podcasts, calling her a bad friend and a liar, among other things, and it took its toll. "I definitely had to go to therapy after," she told ET. "People can say stuff like, 'Oh, you're going to go on a reality shTV show. Are you sure?' And the first two seasons, I was like, 'It was incredible!' And then my last season, I was like, 'I need therapy."
Hannah added that she's "going to be OK," but is just taking time for herself right now.
On Whether She Was Fired From Summer House
Hannah reportedly told the outlet that it was her decision to walk away form Summer House. She even said that "the door is open" for her to come back in the future. (Kyle Cooke will, no doubt, have a few things to say about that...)
On Which Summer House Co-Stars She Still Talks To
After the contentious reunion, Hannah said that she still talks to Paige DeSorbo and Ciara Miller, but none of the other housemates are returning her calls. "I've made an effort, but no," she said when asked about the rest of the cast. "Since I got engaged, things were really weird."
On The Fallout Of Her Engagement
At the Season 5 reunion, Amanda Batula questioned Hannah's friendship after she said she learned about Hannah's engagement through the press. But, according to Hannah, Amanda and she were cool all throughout filming. It wasn't until the season aired that "it was me versus everyone." She continued, "When the season aired, it was horrible. I really felt like they were my family. So it's been a difficult kind of end to my reality TV world." Hannah also suggested that some of her co-stars might have been influenced by the public turning on her and thinking of her as a show villain. "It's crazy how the outside world's opinions can affect people and who jumps on the bandwagon and who doesn't."
Love her or hate her, I think we can all agree that Hannah made the right decision taking a break form Summer House.
