- Outlander -'Outlander' Will Have A Seventh Season, Sassenachs
Thank Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ — Outlander is coming back for a seventh season. The news, reported by TVLine, also comes with the intel that it will be tied to Diana Gabaldon's An Echo In The Bone, and have 12 episodes.
Said showrunner Matthew B. Roberts in a statement:
“We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey. We can’t wait to get into the writers’ room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story.”
The news likely comes as a relief to Outlander fans — though Season 6 is being actively filmed after a COVID-related delay, the series' future after the season's wrap was a little more up in the air. Add to that a recent interview with Sam Heughan in which he knew how the series would end and that he was "ready for other things," and we had reason to worry about whether we'd ever go through the stones again.
But we can't be relieved for too long — after all, An Echo In The Bone comes with its fair share of tragic moments that will have us reaching for the Kleenex, and we don't know anything about the Starz series' fate following Season 7. (We do, however, know that a spin-off could be in the series' future.) That said, at least we have Men In Kilts to help bring us plenty of humor — and Heughan skinny-dipping, of course.
