Netflix's 2021 Holiday Movie Lineup Is *Chef Kiss*

Fall is almost here, so you know what that means: it's time to start getting ready for Christmas movies! It's not even September, and Netflix's 2021 Christmas movie lineup is already giving me all the holiday vibes one could want in 90 degree weather.

Netflix announced a huge slate of 40+ original movies set to premiere before the end of 2021 on Monday, Aug. 23. There's everything, from the Army of the Dead prequel, Army of Thieves, to a musical about Princess Diana, Diana: The Musical, and Oscar-bait Don't Look Up, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. But, obviously, when it comes to Netflix original films, I am here for one thing, and one thing only: Christmas movies. And this new slate doesn't disappoint. This year, Netflix will premiere six explicitly holiday-themed movies. A Boy Called Christmas, A Castle for Christmas, and The Princess Switch 3 are all set for release in November, with Shaun The Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas, Mixtape, and Single All The Way hitting Netflix in December.

Putting aside A Boy Called Christmas and Shaun The Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas, aka the two major kid movies in the list, let's take a closer look at all the delicious holiday-themed joys to come.

A Castle for Christmas

Brooke Shields stars in A Castle for Christmas as an American woman who decides to buy a castle in Scotland (as one does), but first must convince the castle's "prickly" owner, played by Cary Elwes (aka Westley from The Princess Bride). "Working to find a compromise, the pair butt heads and find more than they bargained for," teased Netflix.

Romantic foreign getaway? CHECK. Hate-to-lovers trope? CHECK. Iconic romantic lead? CHECK. All I want from this movie is for Elwes to say his Princess Bride catchphrase, "As you wish," at least once. I don't care if it's cheesy.

The Princess Switch 3

You didn't think Vanessa Hudgens was done switching places with her mysterious identical royal counterpart and the newfound villainous cousin, did you? In The Princess Switch 3, Margaret, Stacy, and Fiona team up to recover a stolen "priceless relic." The official summary teases "a very unexpected switch" which, paired with the inclusion of a "dashing man" has me thinking that this time around, we're gonna see the men get in on the fun. $10 says Kevin (Nick Sagar) has a doppelgänger out there just waiting to cause some chaos.

Mixtape

Mixtape isn't exactly a Christmas movie, but it does take place on New Year's on the eve of Y2K. The movie will follow a 12-year-old girl who connects with her parents after finding an old mixtape. Did I mention that her mother is dead and she's being raised by her grandmother? Oh, and her grandmother is played by JULIE BOWEN? I need to go lie down...

Single All The Way

Mark my words: Single All The Way will be the Netflix Christmas hit of the year. The movie stars Ugly Betty and Younger alum Michael Urie as Peter, a man who has his best friend (Philemon Chambers) pretend to be his boyfriend for the holidays. (We love a fake dating trope!) Chaos ensues when his mom (Hocus Pocus' Kathy Najimy) sets him up on a blind date. Bonus points: according to IMDB, Jennifer Coolidge appears as "Aunt Sandy." I mean, what else could you possibly ask for?

My petition to skip September and dive straight in to Christmas movie season starts now.
