New 'Bridgerton' Season 2 Updates Tease Polin & More Rakes

Do you hear that? The bees are abuzz with Bridgerton Season 2 news today, from a sweet #Polin tease to the Duke's absence and even an episode title. And after this last wave of Bridgerton Season 2 teases, even I have to admit, I'm excited about Anthony's journey to find love. (Trust me, for someone who originally couldn't stand his patronizing, dismissive attitude in Season 1, this is progress.)

With no official release date set for Season 2, there's no telling when we'll actually get to see new footage from the upcoming season, so for now we'll have to settle for the next best thing: social media teases and vague interviews on daytime television! Luckily, recently, we've gotten a wave of Bridgerton content thanks, no doubt, to the 2021 Emmy campaign, which is getting more heated by the day.

The Polin Pic

The News: On Friday, June 11, Nicola Coughlan, aka Penelope Featherington, aka Lady Whistledown herself, shared a new behind-the-scenes pic of her with Luke Newton, aka Colin Bridgerton, teasing the steady growth of the Polin ship.

What It Means: It's been implied that Bridgerton will follow the order of Julia Quinn's original romance series — with Season 1 adapting Book 1, Season 2 adapting Book 2, and so on — but Polin isn't the focus of the series until Book 4, and I'm not sure fans can wait that long. Just based on how much fans love Penelope and Colin together already, I'm taking this pic as a sign that we won't have to wait until Season 4 to see the Polin romance begin to blossom.

The Episode Title

The News: On Monday, June 14, Bridgerton showrunner Chris Van Dusen followed up the Polin pic with his own Season 2 tease, revealing the title of the season's first episode, "Capital R Rake."

What It Means: Obviously, we all wish the rake in question was Simon, but alas, it is most definitely Anthony, who, after breaking up with Siena, has embraced his rakish ways. In the Season 1 finale, he declared that he would not marry for love, which I assume means he's dead-set on sleeping with everyone who is not his future wife in Season 2. (He's gotta get his kicks somewhere, right?) Of course, this might cause a problem when it comes to making a respectable match. With Lady Whistledown writing about everyone's dirty secrets, can Anthony really afford to be branded a "Capital R Rake" during courting season? I suspect we're about to find out.

The Duke's Space Travel

The News: During an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday, Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne) was asked if fans will be happy about where the Duke ends up offscreen in Season 2. "On Mars?" she answered. "Yes, they will love it."

What It Means: If you're still holding out hope for a Duke of Hastings cameo in Season 2, you might need to learn to let go a little bit. He's lightyears away, and he's not coming back.
