Netflix has bestowed an early Christmas present upon us with an exclusive clip from Bridgerton ahead of the Regency era series' holiday season drop.
The period drama from showrunner Chris van Dusen and Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland follows the escapades of the Bridgerton family in London's high society and is based upon Julia Quinn's series of novels.
In the clip from Episode 1, we meet the indomitable Lady Danbury (Adjoah Andoh) and the mysterious Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), who has just returned to London to tie up some family affairs.
However, despite Simon's hope to escape any and all socializing during his return, Lady Danbury has different plans for him. See, she's holding a ball that evening, and his attendance is more than expected — it's required. While he's tried to stay incognito from the ambitious mamas of the London set who would hope to match their daughters up with an eligible duke, his presence will cause quite the stir at the night's fete. (Just imagine Mrs. Bennet in a tizzy over Mr. Bingley's arrival in Pride & Prejudice and you'll get the picture.)
While we wait for all of Season 1 to debut on December 25, we're hastily going to add "your regrets...long pause...are denied" to our word bank of retorts to save for future use. And in the meantime, watch the exclusive clip at your leisure below:
