This entire season of The Bachelor, Gabby has had her career title listed as ICU nurse. But, it turns out, she has another job, too. As she revealed during Monday night's hometowns episode, Gabby was a Denver Broncos cheerleader for five years. And she made quite a name for herself in the NFL during her time with the team.
In 2021, Gabby—known with the Broncos as her full name, Gabriela Windey—received the Pop Warner Humanitarian Award. The Pop Warner Little Scholars organizations promotes football, dance, and cheer for kids. Gabby made NFL history as the first woman and first cheerleader to receive the award, because ever since it started in 2005, it has usually been given to an NFL player
Gabby received the award because of her work in the ICU at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The other recipient in 2021 was Kansas City Chiefs player Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.
"Both Windey and Duvarney-Tardif's selflessness and commitment to helping others are an embodiment of sacrifice and teamwork, making them model representatives for young student-athletes across the nation," read a press release from Pop Warner Little Scholars, according to the Broncos website.
In April 2021, Gabby posted a video to her Instagram that she recorded for the Broncos about her five years on the squad and that time coming to an end. "I am incredibly honored and humbled by all of these experiences I have had during my time as a DBC," she says in the video. She also talks about her Pop Warner award and mentions two other—very different—honors she received during her time as a cheerleader. She was on the cover of the team calendar in 2019, and, she explains, "One of my favorite awards was team clown my rookie year." Yep, that sounds about right after seeing her on The Bachelor. She's a multifaceted lady.
