On Sex and the City, the most reliable part of the show was the friendship between Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Samantha Jones, and Charlotte York...until it wasn't. Samantha (Kim Cattrall) won't be in the upcoming reboot And Just Like That.
But thinking of fonder times on screen between Miranda, Samantha, Carrie, and Charlotte, I couldn't help but wonder, who really were the closest friends among the four women?
If you break down their individual relationships with each other (and keeping behind-the-scenes politics out of the conversation) it's clear that the women turned to a specific friend more than others. Specifically...
Carrie and Miranda
Carrie and Miranda connected on a deeper level than they did with any of the other women. Miranda was the pragmatic moon to Carrie's emotional sun, and vice versa, and it just worked.
Miranda was a straight shooter even when it hurt, and Carrie valued that in a friend. She helped bring Carrie's lofty fantasies of Manhattan life back down to earth with her doses of realism and tough love, like when she told her the truth about how Big was super toxic or how she'd be completely bored out of her mind if she followed The Russian to France. (And just think about it: who does Carrie call when she's sad and lonely in Paris?)
And Miranda appreciated the whimsical nature of her friend's fashion sense and romanticized outlook. She cherished their relationship and even asked her to be Brady's godmother – she wanted Brady to have someone like Carrie to turn to, and she wanted her best friend at her son's baptism so that she had someone there she could roll her eyes at.
