The Triumphant Return Of The Cosmo In The 'Sex And The City' Reboot

There's been the hats, the puns, the shoes. But what about the cosmos?! We here at The Dipp have been anxiously awaiting the return of the cosmo in And Just Like That. Though there was nary a cosmo in sight for the first three episodes of the Sex and the City revival, I'm happy to report that the pink vodka-based cocktail that Carrie & co. were once so fond of appeared to make its return in Episode 4, "Some of My Best Friends."

Sex and the City helped to make cosmos the trendy drink at the turn of the millennium. Twenty years later, the franchise hasn't completely forgotten them. In the first And Just Like That episode, Anthony told Carrie, "I hope you like your cosmos with a side of drama," when she had plans to meet Stanford for a drink after Lily's piano recital. There also might have been a visual nod to them in Episode 3 when Stanford had a lime garnish when he joined Carrie, Miranda, and Samantha as the fourth for their lunch date. But, as his order earlier in the episode revealed, it was gimlet — not a cosmo.

But Sex and the City hadn't given fans a true view of the sweet, pink nectar until Episode 4. After attending an open house with her new realtor/friend Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), Carrie went out to lunch. But their lunch was of the liquid variety (well, until they split the cacio e pepe) as Carrie and Seema seemingly sipped on cosmopolitans.

Martini glass? Check. Pink liquid? Check. Lemon garnish? Check. This, my friends, is a cosmo.

And Just Like That didn't make a production out of the order, so you're going to have to take my word for it. But it certainly tracks for a franchise that ended the first movie with Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha acknowledging their impact on the cocktail and cheersing with it.

It might seem odd that Carrie is sipping cosmos with Seema and not Miranda, Charlotte, or Stanford (Episode 3 was Willie Garson's last after the actor passed away in September). But it seems that And Just Like That is setting up Seema to be Samantha's replacement.

In just one episode, the new character demonstrated that she's accomplished, brash, calls Carrie out on her bullshit, likes the finer things in life, dates around, doesn't mind a cigarette in the car, enjoys a lunch cocktail — and looks fabulous while doing it all. Her name even starts with an "S," for Manolo's sake. So though Seema probably won't be a regular member of Carrie's crew, she does seem to be a stand-in for Samantha. And the shared cosmo sip sealed the deal.
