Welcome to Retro Recaps, where we revisit your favorite old shows and give them the modern recap treatment that they always deserved. We've done, to just name a few, The O.C.'s Chrismukkah episode, Lost's "The Constant," Gilmore Girls' dance marathon episode, that bonkers One Tree Hill episode where a dog ate a heart, The Real World pilot, the RHOC pilot, and the Gallery Girls pilot. (Check out all our Retro Recaps here.) Today, we dive into Felicity. Caution: snark ahead.
The only thing anyone knows about Felicity is that at some point she cuts off her famous curly hair. The urban legend I remember is that Keri Russell, the future Russian spy who played Felicity in the 1998-2002 WB drama, just cut her hair off in between season and the producers freaked out and the ratings went into the toilet. That’s only kind of true. Apparently, the real story is that she put on a short wig and sent a picture to show creators Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams (yeah, the Lost, Star Trek, Star Wars guy) as a joke. They liked it so much they made her cut her hair for the actual show. And yes, the ratings did tank, but that’s because it moved from Tuesday night to Sunday night and most of the audience didn’t make the (star) trek with them.
