About Time (2013)
About Time has that Richard Curtis British endearment that you can't help but root for. Domhnall Gleeson stars as a man who learns the men in his family can time travel, and hopes to get things right with his lady love (Rachel McAdams) to improve his future. Who does he inherit this time traveling gene from, you ask? Billy Mack himself, Bill Nighy.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
It's never a maybe if your friend asks if you want to watch Always Be My Maybe for a movie night. It's a definite yes. Ali Wong and Randall Park, who offscreen have been longtime friends since the '90s, star as childhood pals who rekindle their teenage romance as adults. The film also blessed us with Randall Park's hit track, "I Punched Keanu Reeves." And yes, it was better than any scene you could see in Speed.
Dime Cuándo Tú (2020)
In this Mexican rom-com, Will (Jesús Zavala) decides to uproot his life to fulfill his grandfather's last wish – to hightail it to Mexico City and enamórate. The trailer above is in Spanish as originally intended, but here's a dubbed English trailer, too.
Friends with Benefits (2011)
Does anyone else remember how Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher (former That 70's Show co-stars who are now married with children) had similar no strings attached romantic comedies come out the same year? Yeah, cool, me too. In Friends with Benefits, Kunis and Justin Timberlake (post-The Social Network) agree to hook up without any of the emotional hangups of a relationship. Come for the flirty banter, stay for one of the best flash mobs ever captured on film.
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)

Tired of the pressure of finding a date for the holidays, Luke Bracey and Emma Roberts make a pact to always be each other's plus one for the next year: for New Year's Eve countdowns, chugging Guinness on St. Patrick's Day, and dressing up for Halloween parties. But always being there for each other turns into something more than just the holiday spirit.
Ibiza (2018)
Ibiza is the life we all want to be living after the pandemic as we usher in the new roaring 20s. Gillian Jacobs stars as Harper, whose New York job sends her off to Spain for a business trip. But when her friends tag along and they meet DJ Robb Stark (Richard Madden) at a club, their trip turns into a riotous adventure to Ibiza to track him down.
Just Say Yes (2021)
Netflix's content library is huge to say the least, and that goes for international film titles as well, like the upcoming Dutch rom-com, Just Say Yes. And no, the Snow Patrol song doesn't seem to be featured in the soundtrack, as far as I know. Yolanthe Cobau stars as Lotte, a self-proclaimed sucker for romance who reinvigorates her life and career after facing heartbreak on live TV.
Legally Blonde (2001)
If anyone can teach us about resilience, it's Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. You know it, you love it. You don't need me to explain it to you. Just watch.

Moxie (2021)
Amy Poehler directs and stars in this Netflix original, based on the book by Jennifer Mathieu. Poehler plays a former Riot Grrrl mom whose daughter is inspired to take a page from her mama's book and publish her own feminist zine to fight back against sexual harassment and sexism at her school. But the kicker is, it's anonymous.
My Best Friend's Wedding (1997)
Let's all say a little prayer that this rom-com is finally on Netflix. In this affair of the heart, Julianne (Julia Roberts) realizes she is in love with her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) and tries to stop his impending wedding to Kim (Cameron Diaz) by any means necessary. The catch is though that she's the maid of honor.
Mystic Pizza (1988)
This movie has always made me want to trek out to Connecticut to try the real Mystic Pizza and discover for myself what Leona puts in those slices of heaven. The ever-cozy Mystic Pizza sees three Portuguese women (Julia Roberts, Annabeth Gish, and Lili Taylor) find love when they're off the clock from working at the pizza joint.
Notting Hill (1999)
Netflix is just a streamer, queued up on your TV, asking you to press play. This rom-com penned by Richard Curtis (Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually) sees Hugh Grant in his peak 90s charming lead status, working as the owner of a travel book shop in the eponymous London neighborhood of Notting Hill who just happens to fall in love with America's sweetheart and world renowned movie star, Julia Roberts.
Set It Up (2018)
The rom-com that kicked off Netflix's boom in the genre, Set It Up sees charmers Glen Powell and Zoey Deutch team up as New York assistants who need a damn break from their high-powered bosses, Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu. So what do they do? "Parent Trap" their bosses into falling in love. But do these matchmakers fall in love at the same time? You'll just have to "set up" your Netflix movie night and find out.
She's Gotta Have It (1986)
Spike Lee's first feature-length film sees Brooklyn-based artist Nola Darling (Tracy Camilla Johns) own her sexuality and go after what she wants. She's gotta have it, and no guy is going to infringe on her independence. Shot in black-and-white, the film shows her manage relationships with three men (Lee, Tommy Redmond Hicks, and John Canada Terrell). Once you're done watching the film, you can make your way through Lee's TV series adaptation starring DeWanda Wise, which premiered on Netflix in 2017.
Someone Great (2019)
Someone Great is technically about a breakup, so it's not a romance in the traditional sense. After Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) nabs her dream job in San Francisco, her boyfriend (Oscar nominee LaKeith Stanfield) breaks up with her rather than try to make long-distance work. But the story sees Jenny and her two best friends (Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise) come together in their support of each other more than anything, and that's a love story worth rallying behind. Plus, the soundtrack really is something great.
The Sweetest Thing (2002)
After enduring too much heartbreak, Christina (Cameron Diaz) has steeled herself against love. That is, until she meets Peter (Thomas Jane) at a club one night and her heart flips a switch. The To All the Boys I've Loved Before Trilogy
We're just going to group these babies in the To All the Boys trilogy together: To All the Boys I've Loved Before, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, and To All the Boys: Always and Forever. The lovestruck tales of Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky came to an end in this year's third installment, which was released just in time for quarantine Valentine's Day. So why not make a night of it and go back to where it all began, with a couple of love notes shy teen Lara Jean had stowed away in her closet that her sneaky little sister Kitty couldn't help but get her hands on...and send to all Lara Jean's crushes. I will say though, in the end, justice for #TeamJAM. He's a star.
The Wedding Planner (2001)
Mary (Jennifer Lopez) plans out everyone else's love life, except her own. When a handsome stranger (Matthew McConaughey) saves her – and her shoe – on the streets of San Francisco, she thinks fate may have finally intervened. Well, until she gets her next wedding planning gig and discovers her knight in shining armor is the groom-to-be.
A Week Away (2021)
Think Camp Rock, minus the Jonas Brothers. A teen (Kevin Quinn) with a rocky past evades juvenile detention by heading to church camp, "Aweegaway," where "a week away" can change everything. While there, he falls for the camp director's daughter (Bailee Madison).
What a Girl Wants (2003)
High in the ranking of movies that are guaranteed to make your dad cry (it's up there with Armageddon), What a Girl Wants sees teen queen Amanda Bynes jet off to England to find the dad she's never met. Surprise, he's Colin Firth and is an uptight politician running for office. The movie's got fashion shows, romantic reunions, and a motorcycle-riding singer with frosted tips. If this doesn't inspire you to go abroad post-pandemic, I don't know what will.
When We First Met (2018)
Ever wish you could have a second chance at a first impression?
