Did Kate Actually See Mallory On 'Cruel Summer'? This Theory Explains Why She Blames Jeanette

When two people accuse one another of lying, it's easy to assume that at least one of them is telling the truth. Yet, on Cruel Summer, things aren't so black and white. Kate says she saw Jeanette, Jeanette says she never saw Kate... and then there's Mallory, Kate's new best friend and Jeanette's old best friend, who I think fits somewhere in that grey area, thanks to a recent Reddit theory. Hear me out.

Redditor AStringofNumbers4082 has a wild Cruel Summer theory that makes a shocking amount of sense... assuming that Mallory is an awful, two-faced friend, that is.

"I kind of think Mallory is the one who saw Kate at Martin's," they explain. "We know she was resentful of Kate before they became BFFs and we know that she's resentful of Jeanette in '94. I have this idea in my mind that Mallory somehow got the key to Martin's house and the 'You Go Girl' necklace from Jeanette's jewelry box and that she's the one who went to the house, saw Kate, and maybe dropped the necklace."

It's a completely plausible theory. For one thing, it was Mallory's idea to sneak into Martin's house in the first place. Mallory is also the one who got Jeanette that necklace for her birthday in 1993.

Of course, the question mark here is: Why would Kate see Mallory and think it was Jeanette? Maybe the truth is simple, in that she never saw who was actually in the basement in the first place.
