Theo's Fate On 'You' Is The Least Tragic Storyline Of The Season

Despite vowing to dedicate their lives to each other between Season 2 and 3 of You, Joe and Love are anything but faithful to the other. Joe has an affair with their neighbor Natalie (RIP) as well as his co-worker, Marienne, while Love has an emotional affair (and short-lived physical one) with Natalie's stepson, Theo. Fortunately, Theo's fate in You Season 3 wasn't as tragic as others, in fact, you could consider him lucky.

Warning: Spoilers for Season 3 of You to follow.

In the penultimate episode of Season 3, Theo discovers that Joe was captured on camera leaving the last place Natalie, his stepmother, was seen alive. He automatically thinks that Joe is behind all the killings, and while he is certainly responsible for many of them (as an accomplice and otherwise) it's actually Theo's crush, Love, who is the mastermind behind many of the dark things happening in the suburban enclave.

When Theo goes to find Love and rescue her, he ends up stumbling upon Sherry and Cary, Love's neighbors who she and Joe had to lock in a glass cage after they overheard Love screaming about killing Natalie. Love, realizing that Theo poses a very real threat to her not being in prison for the rest of her life, bashes him over the head, too. She doesn't even really think to check twice if he's actually dead or not.

Of course, Theo is not dead — as Joe discovers when he sees Theo's body writhing in the bag Love dumped him in. Joe rescues Theo and takes him to the hospital, knowing full well that he's going to skip town with his new love, Marienne, sooner or later.

Things ultimately work out for Theo, though they really don't really work out for Joe. Love finds out about Joe's plan with Marienne and paralyzes him with aconite. Theo's stepfather Matthew discovers Joe, nearly dead, and threatens him in order for Joe to tell him where his son is. Joe's able to indicate where Theo is on his phone, however, and Matthew is able to reunite with him at the hospital. Shortly after Matthew leaves, Joe kills Love, then burns down their house — only after cutting off his toe and baking it into a pie so that it looks like Love killed Joe in a murder-suicide.

At the end of the season, we see Theo being wheeled out of the hospital by Matthew. While he's in a wheelchair and jokes about physical therapy, it seems like he's more or less doing okay. Fortunately, he probably won't have to deal with any fallout from knowing Love and Joe's true nature — which is more than we can say for this deranged couple's poor victims like Beck, Candace, and James.
