- The Bachelor -Colton Underwood's Most Revealing Quotes From His 'GMA' Interview With Robin Roberts
By now, you've seen the news. Former Bachelor Colton Underwood is gay. The reality star went on GMA to tell his story to Robin Roberts in a "deeply personal" interview, but in case you don't feel like watching the 13 minute sit-down... here are the most important quotes Colton Underwood had to share.
"I've ran [sic] from myself for a long time and hated myself for a long time, I'm gay, and I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it."
"I'm the happiest and healthiest I've ever been in my life, and that means the world to me."
"I would've rather died than say 'I'm gay,' and that was sort of my wake up call."
"There was a moment in L.A. when I woke up, and I didn't think I was going to wake up. I didn't have the intention of waking up, and I did. And I think for me, that was my wake up call, of like, 'this is your life, take back control.'"
Colton said he use to have "suicidal thoughts." "Driving my car close to a cliff, like, if this goes off, it's not that big of a deal. I don't feel that anymore."
"Do I regret being the Bachelor? Do I regret handling it the way that I did? I do."
"I can sit here and say sorry to all those women, but I can also say thank you, because without them, and without the Bachelor franchise, I don't know if this would've ever come out."
When asked if he was in love with Cassie Randolph, Colton said: "Yes. And that only made it harder and more confusing for me."
He apologized to Cassie, "I'd like to say sorry for how things ended, I messed up." And said, "I wish I could've been courageous enough to fix myself before I broke anybody else."
(Last year, Cassie filed and then dropped a restraining order against Colton for stalking.)
"I remember praying to God the morning I found out I was going to be the Bachelor, and saying, 'thank you for making me straight. Finally, you're letting me be straight and giving me a wife and a fiancé.'"
"I've known that I've been different since the age of 6. I didn't know what it was and couldn't process it and couldn't put my finger on it until high school, in my freshman year, when I knew I was gay."
"I've had a range of responses, but the number one most common one is, 'I wish you would've told me sooner.'"
"I am proud to be gay."
"The truth is, I was a virgin Bachelor because I was gay, and I didn't know how to handle it."
"I've still never had an emotional connection with a man, I've never allowed myself to, and it's never been, sort of in my cards to allow myself to get there, and I want to more than anything."
