We all know how much the producers behind The Bachelor and The Bachelorette love a good editing trick, which is why I never trust the promos they show us at the beginning of the season. But the preview they debuted after the Season 16 premiere seemed particularly alarming. After all, I’ve read the spoilers about just what goes down on Clare Crawley’s quest to find love. The word got out early that (spoiler alert!) she just might have found the one right off the bat, and the series wasn’t shy about showing us that when Clare exclaimed that she met her husband just about the second that she laid eyes on Dale.

However, there are still a lot of questions about what exactly goes down after that — and while the promo seemed to confirm a lot of the rumors, it also promised that whatever we think we know is wrong. So I decided to go through the clip and break it down, shot by shot, to try and figure out what’s real, what’s fake, and what’s B-roll spliced together with some dramatic music.

A Grown Woman

The promo starts off with Clare saying, “I’m a grown woman, I do what I want to do, when I want to do it.” If that’s not the motto for a season that was allegedly cut short by a lead who wanted to be with just one guy and didn’t want to waste her time on the rest, I don’t know what is.
