Is music a red herring?

Much has been made this season about Vecna and his connection (or lack thereof) to music. We know that Max escaped thanks to Kate Bush (even though we can’t escape the song now), and Victor implied that music helped him escape his trance.

But, is it all a red herring?

At the Creel mansion, the music was playing before anyone had a chance to escape One. You would think if it were playing prior to the trance, that they would escape his spell altogether. It’s true that the music worked with Max, but is that because it actually is tied to your passion, versus just music itself?

Did Max escape Vecna because she was summoned by the thing she holds dear, music? And would that mean that everyone else has a different trigger, depending on their interest?

I could just see the music leading them all astray…
