What The 'Sex And The City' Characters Would Be Up To Today, According To Professional Fans

Let’s face it: 2021 is a wild time to be reviving Sex and the City for a reboot at HBO Max. Or is it the perfect time? On the one hand, we are living in far less glamorous times — do you even remember where your heeled shoes are these days? — than during its original run from 1998-2004. On the other hand, the show is given far too little credit for its ability to handle affecting drama. Some of its best moments came from dealing with Miranda’s mother’s death, Charlotte’s struggle to conceive a child, and Samantha’s breast cancer. And it addressed 9/11 with some of its most beautiful and subtle episodes, genuinely helping New York City to recover from the devastation, emotionally and economically.

The characters are also so iconic that it’s easy — and very fun — to imagine them in just about any circumstance. (Comedian Jimmy Fowlie made an addictive, brutal sendup of the show in COVID times last year.) I asked some of the internet’s most prominent professional Sex and the City fans for their hopes and predictions for Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda as they return to their characters later this year — and even for Samantha, who won’t be joining them. Zoom sex parties, Netflix reality shows, mommy Instagram, and the 2020 election all came up. And so did Bridgerton — like, a lot.
