- Sex and the City -Calculating The Ages Of Every 'Sex And The City' Character Ahead Of The Reboot
It's been 10 long years since the release of Sex and the City 2, and I think it's safe to say that we are all definitely 10 years older. But Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda might have been able to escape the last decade — this is television, meaning when the Sex and the City reboot will actually take place is anybody's guess. Will the Sex and the City reboot actually find all the characters 10 years older, or will movie magic find them just as young as they were when we last saw them in the second film?
Despite the big announcement confirming the Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That..., not much is known about the show other than the fact that it will star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. But, Variety and other outlets have confirmed that the show will follow the characters "as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s." In Sex and the City 2, the only woman in her 50s was Samantha, as played by Kim Cattrall, who will not be returning to the series. So, based on that little tidbit, it seems like Charlotte, Carrie, and Miranda have not been immune to aging after all. (Sorry ladies!)
No official release date for And Just Like That... has been announced yet, but assuming the show will pick back up sometime this year, in 2021, here's how old all the Sex and the City characters will be in the reboot.
Carrie Bradshaw: 52-54
Carrie was 32 years old when Season 1 of Sex and the City premiered in 1998. Granted, TV years are not always the same as normal, human years, but it does seem that the franchise has stuck to at least vaguely following the passage of real time. In the Sex and the City movie from 2008, Carrie was called a "40-year-old bride," suggesting a possible 2-year fudging of the timeline. Of course, that film also takes place over the course of a year, which means, she could be 41 by the time it's over. And Wikipedia lists Carrie's birth year as 1966, which would make her one year older. Either way, I think it's safe to assume that Carrie will be somewhere between 52-54 when we see her again.
Big was 45 in Season 4, which aired in 2001, making him around 65. If he's even alive at all...
Charlotte York: 54
Charlotte celebrated turning 36 in the Season 5 episode, "Luck Be An Old Lady," which aired in 2002. That would make her 54 today, assuming the reboot reflects real time.
Harry Goldenblatt: Unknown
Harry's birthday was never celebrated on the series, so his age remains somewhat of a mystery. Actor Evan Handler was born in 1961 and just celebrated his 60th birthday, per IMDB. My guess is Harry will be somewhere between 55-60 when the reboot airs.
Charlotte and Harry's eldest daughter was adopted in the series finale. Though her exact age wasn't specified, the couple describes her as a baby, suggesting she was meant to be a newborn. That episode aired in 2004, which would make Lily about 16 today.
Charlotte gave birth to Rose in the first Sex and the City movie, which would make her a tween today. Good luck with that, Charlotte!
Miranda Hobbes: 54
Sex and the City's very first episode began with Miranda celebrating her "thirty-something birthday," which doesn't really tell us much, but Wikipedia lists her birthday as July 1966, which would make her 54.
Steve Brady: Unknown
Steven appears to have never been given a distinct age for fans to hold onto. Actor David Eigenberg was reportedly born in 1964, which would make him 56. And, given the fact that there was never a real plot point about any significant age difference between Steve and Miranda in the show, I think that sounds about right for Steve.
I truly cannot believe I'm about to type this, but, Brady is now... legal. The first child of the Sex and the City crew, Brady was a newborn in Season 5, which aired in 2002, meaning Miranda and Steve's red-headed babe is now 18-years-old, and, one assumes, ready to leave the next for college.
Depending on production, all of these characters might be a year older or so when And Just Like That... actually premieres. Or the show might decide to ditch logic and time and just keep the characters as their 2020/early 2021 ages. Only one thing is certain: no matter her age, Carrie will be strutting around New York City in Manolo Blahniks and Dior until the day she dies, and that's what really matters.
