Samantha Really Did Take Out Carrie's Diaphragm On 'SATC'

This week's episode of And Just Like That brings us a retelling of a famous story from years gone by. During Carrie Bradshaw's podcast, X, Y and Me, Carrie talks about how her friends are there for her, always, and recounts the time that current-ex best friend Samantha Jones pulled out her diaphragm "with her bare hand."

Now, if you're a die-hard fan, you probably know the story already. This isn't just some tall tale Carrie's bringing up – this is Sex And The City canon. Samantha really did pull out Carrie's diaphragm in Season 2, Episode 6 of the original series' run.

Let me set the scene for you. The year is 1999. The setting is Carrie's apartment. The girls are sipping martinis while Carrie is in the bathroom. They don't know what she is doing in there and are the girls are going to be late for a movie if she doesn't hurry up in there.

And... action!

Samantha: Is everything ok in there?
Carrie: Actually no. I need help. This is embarrassing but I got a new diaphragm and it's stuck.
Miranda: How long has it been in there?
Carrie: Since last night.
Miranda: You mean while you were out getting your teeth cleaned this morning it was-
Carrie: Yep. Now listen, I'm either gonna have to make an emergency visit to my gynecologist or one of you is gonna have to give me a hand.
Miranda: I'd help you but I'm not very dexterous. (To Charlotte) You're the lesbian, go in there.
Charlotte:
No.
Samantha: Go. (Points Carrie into the bathroom. Chugs martini.)

End scene.

Now if that's not a good friend, then I don't know what is. Samantha goes in there and pulls the thing out of Carrie's vagina.

I get that mixing business and personal relationships is tricky, but I don't care about the the fall out they had. I refuse to believe that after years of history and being there for each other in times of need – I mean Samantha quite literally gave Carrie a hand when no one else would – they can't overcome this little blip in their relationship? Come on.

Okokok, we all know that Samantha's absence from And Just Like That is more about the drama between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall than that of Carrie and Samantha, but the producers and writers are definitely leaving the door open for a Samantha return (see: texts from this episode for reference), so I will continue to hold out hope that the friends who stick their hands up each other's vaginas are friends for life.
