In Riverdale's Season 5 episode "Purgatorio," which jumps ahead seven years, Serpent Queen Toni reveals that she is very pregnant. However, when Archie inquires about the identity of the baby's dad, Toni says she's not telling — at least, not yet.
Though the identity of Toni's baby daddy is a secret, it doesn't seem like a particularly dark secret, which is the go-to type in Riverdale. Toni is delighted to become a mom, and never implies that the father won't be in her child's life. Plus, Toni's pending motherhood is something that fits in so well with her character arc post-time jump. She has become the maternal leader of the Serpents and is hellbent on restoring Riverdale to its former glory ("glory" being subjective, of course!).
In an interview with The Dipp, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says he discussed with actor Vanessa Morgan if she wanted her own pregnancy to be included in the plot, noting it was something the show was eager to include.
"When we talked to Vanessa about [including her pregnancy], it's something she wanted to do as well," Aguirre-Sacasa says. And as for finding out the identity of the father (or fathers? More on that later.), the showrunner says, "We'll find who the father of her baby is in Episode 508."
Beyond incorporating Morgan's pregnancy into the show, Aguirre-Sacasa also collaborated with the actor when it came to Toni's arc this season, delivering on a promise made to the actor last June.
