'RHUGT' Is Full Of Familiar Tropes, With One Giant Twist

The Bravo gods have blessed us with another miracle right before the holiday season, and it’s for the real fans and the real fans only. The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip harkens back to a simpler time: a time before crime on Bravo, a time before Erika Jayne allegedly bamboozled us all, a time before Homeland Security stormed a shooting day to sharrest Jen Shah in a 15-minute Botox parking lot space.

With RHUGT, we get back to the basics and honor the Avengers of reality stars: Kyle Richards, Ramona Singer, Kenya Moore, Cynthia Bailey, Luann DeLesseps, Melissa Gorga, and Teresa Giudice. And I have to say, it’s truly refreshing to be reminded why we loved these ladies to begin with.

But to fall back in love with them means we're revisiting the past and, to that end, RHUGT is full of old, familiar Housewives tropes. If you're a fan of a recurring Housewives theme, this show is for you, and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way, because the familiarity actually brings the joy back into the franchise. We love to see the women fighting over who gets the biggest room in the house instead of figuring out who's actively defrauding the less fortunate.

It's even fun to watch the old Singer Stinger at work, because let's be honest, Ramona has had one of the biggest character arcs in reality television herstory.
