Monday's are for the boos, but could that all be coming to an end? On Sunday, Dancing With the Stars pro, Cheryl Burke, revealed she had tested positive for COVID-19. Burke shared the news on her Instagram where she explained that despite being double vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine, she had tested positive in a breakthrough case of the virus.
"I feel so bad for Cody. I feel like I'm letting him down," Burke said in her emotional Instagram video. "I just feel like shit, to be quite honest. And it's so overwhelming because it's Sunday, and the show's tomorrow."
Update: According to Good Morning America, Burke will enter a quarantine period following her diagnosis. However, Cody will reportedly dance on Monday with one of the show's alternate pros.
Per his Instagram Story at 4 p.m. ET, Cody revealed he will perform in some capacity on Monday night's show. His full statement regarding Burke's diagnosis and his future on DWTS is below:
First and foremost I want to send all my love and thoughts and healing energy to Ms. Cheryl Burke. We've spoken a few times, she seems to be in good spirits and feeling well. But I've been through COVID and I know how crazy this virus can be and it can change at any moment, so just keep her in your thoughts. The competition of Dancing With the Stars must go on I will be competing. How is to be determined, so stay tuned...
As it turns out, Cody and Burke's performance showed on Monday night's telecast was a taped rehearsal from last week, prior to Burke's diagnosis. They are still eligible for voting and elimination.
Earlier: At the time of publication, there are many remaining factors unknown. Has Cody tested for COVID, and if so what were the results? Will he be able to perform without Cheryl, if he is negative? Will he be reassigned another pro? Will he have to sit this week out, and if so, will that affect his standing in the competition? Burke said in her video that she needs to quarantine for 10 days, which will not only affect this week but next week's show too.
We'll update this post throughout the day with information, but until then here's to Burke's speedy recovery.
