James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser is a man of many talents, and perhaps, even more aliases. Outlander's leading man may have coined the fondest nickname of the series (as he has referred to his beloved Claire as “Sassenach” nearly 180 times by now, according to my colleague Caitlin Gallagher’s count), but it's Jamie who boasts the largest variety of monikers. Whether branded with a bounty on his head, printing pamphlets under a pen name, or tending to horses at Helwater, Jamie has assumed new code names either by choice or by means of survival.
So I canna help myself from revisiting all the different iterations of Jamie we’ve met on the Starz drama. Cue up your favorite sequence of The Skye Boat Song and pour yourself a glass of Sam Heughan’s fine Sassenach whisky, because we’re ranking the code names of one James Fraser in these here Scottish Highlands.
10. The Dunbonnet
The Dunbonnet was a tragic chapter in Jamie’s history of names. His raggedy hair, partially hidden by his namesake gray bonnet, covered his tortured soul during one of his loneliest periods without Claire. He bears this name while hiding in the woods six years after the Battle of Culloden, and even Heughan was not a fan of Jamie’s new locks. “The hair and the beard was so rough,” he told reporters back in 2017.
