Although they don't have the same lead status as Claire and Jamie and Brianna and Roger, Marsali and Fergus are one of the most beloved couples of the Outlander universe. Even with the expansion of Marsali's role as Claire's apprentice, Lauren Lyle and César Domboy don't often get the screentime that book readers — and non-readers — would like them to. But Fergus and Marsali in Outlander Season 6 may have some very serious storylines coming up based on the behind-the-scenes preview and the sixth Outlander book.
After the Season 5 finale, Lyle teased to TVLine that Season 6 will show Marsali and Fergus as a couple more. "I do know some stuff is going to happen with them next season that's very much them together, so that will happen, but it'll be a totally different situation to what you've seen them in before," she said.
Book readers have a pretty good sense of what "totally different situation" Lyle could be referring to. Below, I spoke to fans about the possibilities of the show staying true to Fergus and Marsali's A Breath of Snow and Ashes story below. Spoilers for Outlander Book 6 ahead.
The Birth Of Henri-Christian
The Book Story
In A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Marsali gives birth to their fourth child, Henri-Christian. After a lot of worrying on Claire's part, Marsali delivers a healthy baby boy but he does have dwarfism. The revelation that his son is a little person makes Fergus flee the surgery and not return to his wife, his newborn son, and three other children for days. [Here, the author takes a deep breath and remembers that she loves Fergus.]
