Does Droughtlander feel like it's going on forever, without nary a hint at Outlander Season 6 in sight? You're not alone. Though, despite COVID-19 delaying production, details about Outlander's next season are not as sparse as, say, the rules of time travel, for I had the opportunity to talk to Outlander author Diana Gabaldon and get her take on Season 6, what she knows about it, and of course, what she's willing to say about it. (There's a difference between those last two.) Spoilers for Outlander Books 1-7 ahead.
Unlike previous seasons of the show, Season 5 took quite a bit of content from the sixth Outlander book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Stephen Bonnet's death, the fire at the Dutch family's home, and Claire's assault to name a few. Luckily, there's plenty more plot to go around so Gabaldon isn't concerned that Season 5 already dipped into A Breath of Snow and Ashes. "There's a lot more, believe me," the author says of her longest Outlander novel. "It's a very dramatic book. A lot of really entertaining stuff happens in there."
As book readers know, some of that entertaining stuff includes Claire almost dying, Claire being accused of murder, Young Ian revealing what happened with his wife, Brianna and Roger having another child (and returning to their own time), and the long-awaited house fire. Entertaining indeed.
