Why Kelly McGillis isn’t in Top Gun sequel

I just saw Top Gun: Maverick and let me just say, no notes!!!! It’s a perfect film.

But I was curious why Kelly McGillis wasn’t in the sequel and here’s what popsugar revealed:

🎞 McGillis played Charlie in "Top Gun," but when the sequel came around, according to her, she wasn't even asked to be part of the movie.

"They did not [invite me back], and nor do I think they would ever," McGillis said back in 2019, when the first trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick" dropped and she was conspicuously absent. "I'm old and I'm fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about," she said. McGillis, who is 64 years old, is almost exactly five years older than 59-year-old Cruise; Connelly is 51. 🎞
