The Ring truly messed me up. It came out when I was in 8th grade & I had to sleep with a night light for 3 months after that. My tv was directly in front of my bed at the time & I would get so freaked out. I’m almost 34 & still don’t like seeing any images of Samara. The Grudge came out the next year I think & that definitely didn’t help things. 

I had never been more scared than watching the Nosferatu episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark as a kid. (Legit changed my sleeping style so my blanket covered my neck at night after watching it.)

But, I know that doesn't count as a movie, so I'll play along. I was pretty haunted by The Descent, Wait Until Dark (great classic), and the trailer of Funny Games. I didn't have the balls to watch the actual thing, lol. 

The Conjuring. Had to walk out! I couldn't get out of my head how this was based on a real story and it terrified the sh*t out of me.

For me, it was Elephant, the Gus Van Sant movie about school shootings. It came out while I was still in high school, and only a few years out from Columbine, and I was struck by just how real it felt. Though it was well-done, I’m not sure I recommend it unless you’re ready to be haunted.
