I enjoy the boutique theatres, but it has to be a movie I’m really excited about or would be best in theatre (and the latter is hard to justify with quality big screen TVs at home now).

Otherwise, its just too expensive now. To get two adult tickets plus popcorn and 2 drinks can be $60+. At home I can rent a movie for a few bucks or use my already paid for apps, buy a box of popcorn for $5 and a cheap bottle of wine, and I’m set. The price difference just doesn’t justify it for me.

It’s amazing how disrespectful crowds have become in traditional movie theaters, to be honest. Maybe it’s because I’m no longer a teenager, but dealing with 13 year olds with no desire to actually watch the film has become so frustrating. It’s no wonder more people are staying home. 

But I miss it! I would love to enjoy that special theater experience again. 

I absolutely love going to the movies and missed going so much during the pandemmy, so I'll always go when I can. 

Theaters all the way. I used to work at one as a projectionist and I miss getting free movies as well as the solitude of being surrounded by those humming projectors. It was one of my favorite jobs. Though the pay sucked and they slowly phased out having projectionists.

Alamo and Nitehawk, 100% theater. But, like, a Regal/AMC situation…. Home. 

But anything Oscar-bait, I definitely want to go to the theater. 

I always get more excited for a movie when I go to the theater but staying at home really is more my speed these days. I always have to pee and these damn movies are all over 2 hours these days. damn I sound like an old person! Lol

Assigned seat theater with good and drinks. Haven’t been since 2019. Can’t wait!

When I was a teenager there were few things better than going to the movies with your friends, but then it seemed to get to a point where movie theaters were full of people talking/screaming/etc making it a really irritating experience. 

Now with the rise of "boutique" movie theaters like Alamo, which emphasize being quiet and have better food/more comfortable seats, it definitely makes me enjoy the movie experience more. BUT, if you wanted to see a movie and it was both in theaters and on a streaming service, which would you opt for? I definitely agree that some movies are better experienced in a larger format, but it's hard for me to not opt for sweatpants and the ability to pause it whenever I need to go to the bathroom! Does it depend on the type of movie? Or just your mood?
