Sleep hacks for a new insomniac

Hello, it is 3:20 am, and I come to you in desperate need of help. For the last 4+ months, I have not slept through the night. (Except for one night when I Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window’d myself and drank a bottle of wine at an Italian dinner.)

I have been waking up around 3am every night. Sometimes a little earlier, sometimes right on the dot. It’s very creepy. I have tried a lot of things:

- melatonin

- advil pm

- acupuncture

- sleepy time tea

- aromatherapy

- sleep masks

- new bedding

- new pajamas

- new laundry detergent

- different room temperatures

- sleeping on the couch

- not getting into bed until my eyes are about to close

- working out in the morning vs the evening

- not eating hours before bed

- therapy lol (I have a lot on my mind but no more than normal for a perpetually anxious person)

I don’t have a problem going to sleep. In fact, it’s not a problem at all. It’s staying asleep. When I wake up, I’m WIDE AWAKE. Tonight, for example, I took 20 mg of melatonin at 9pm and you’d think, oh maybe I’d be groggy when I wake up for my 3am internal alarm. Nope! She’s Katy Perry over here — I’m WIDE AWAKE. (You guys remember that song? i said I was not groggy but perhaps a little deliriously sleep deprived!)

I welcome all advice as I’m truly at a loss! Next step I think would be to see a sleep therapist but, blah, why not then go the internet first!
