It’s not a childhood movie, but I remember LOVING the movie Role Models, which came out in the 2000s and starred Paul Rudd. I remember thinking it was hilarious, but I watched it a few weeks ago and it was VERY 2000s. Gay jokes, use of the “R” word, a lot of good ol’ boy misbehavior, and a lot of lazy jokes. Apatow-esque, but less funny. 

Yet I’ve rewatches stupid 90s comedies that still hold up. Interesting how some things grow stale even after just 10 years. 

I remember being charmed by Love, Actually when I saw it in theaters and when I watched it again a few years later around the holidays I legitimately hated damn near every fatphobic, stalker-friendly minute of it.  

When I saw Just Go With It, the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston/Dave Matthews vehicle in theaters, I diiiiiied laughing. And I was sober! I thought it was so funny!!! Upon a second rewatch, after having recommended it highly to the group, it wasn't that funny and all my friends hated me. To this day, they still rib me for it

We all have rose-colored glasses when it comes to movies we grew up on — our brain confuses nostalgia for quality, and we talk for years about how [insert movie] is one of the best of all time. 

And then we watch it back years later and realize… womp womp. It’s not nearly as good as we remember.
