One day I was sitting on my sofa, and my furnace started making really loud banging noises. Par for the course, typically, but these were REALLY loud. Then a wet hissing sound started. I just sat watching it, thinking "this can't be good," and, suddenly, black liquid started spewing out of the furnace all over the floor. 

Thank god for supers — he came to clean it up, and, to this day, I still have no idea what that liquid was. I'm pretty sure it would have turned me into Alex Mack. 

Could be breaking in and taking the money from the loads. One complex I lived in had assigned parking spaces with no guest spaces. So only two people could be at your house with a car at a time or they would have to park somewhere else and walk

I used to live in an apartment in NYC where there was a large pole that ran vertically through my bathroom. It was either really hot or really cold. If you bumped into it on accident you could either get a minor burn or be shocked at how cold it was. 

There is a man in my apartment who I share vents with since were both the "D" apartments on our floors. Multiple times a day he breaks into these rages where he is just screaming curse words at the top of his lungs for a few minutes. It honestly sounds like he's in the room with me. No idea why this happens

Maybe the locked it for safety reasons. Like if someone were to get in the building, they could hide in the laundry room... this just gives that intruder one less place to hide. 

My shower head in my East Village apartment was shoulder level. At first I was like, WTF?! but since I don't wash my hair that often, turned out to be a benefit!

Not an apartment, but in my dorm in college, we had a “peeper” who would show up on a semi-regular basis. He would sneak in women’s bathrooms and peep through the curtain while people showered. 

The school didn’t do much about it besides inform “security,” who was just a fellow freshman  with no security experience paid minimum wage to sit by the front doors every night. We all had to just shrug it off. “Oh, the peeper’s back, lol.”

My apartment building just started locking the laundry room door. We have all been given a key to get into it now.

My question is, what prompted our landlord to keep the door locked at all times? Was someone breaking in to do laundry? Who would do that? It costs $2 per load! Make it make sense.

I know we all have questionable stories from living in apartments. Who has the wildest one?
