I was in San Juan, PR when a gas refinery exploded. It was loud and there was a mushroom cloud, which was unsettling!

Probably hurricane/super storm Sandy -- I will never forget how scary it was watching the water levels rise. I lived about 2 blocks away and our parking lot/ground floor of our apartment building had several feet of water. We didn't have power or heat for about a week.

Not physically close, but I was on a work trip in Puerto Rico, and the day before we were to return, a plane had to emergency land in the Hudson River shortly after takeoff (Miracle on the Hudson).  Needless to say I wasn’t thrilled about getting on a plane heading to the same airport!

This rapper got shot ten minutes away from my house at a motorcycle dealership 

Oh man, grew up close to the David Schultz murder (they made it into the movie 'Foxcatcher'). 

Omg I was chilling at my friends house and on the news we saw a gator eat another gator and it turned out it happened down the street

It’s been a crazy and scary week here in NYC following the subway shootings — especially since I’m two subway stops away from the incident. It hit super close to home, and even more so when the suspect was caught right around my first apartment in NYC. 

The manhunt reminded me of when I grew up in Minnesota and Andrew Cunanan was on the loose. There was so much panic, and as a child, I was convinced he was coming directly to our house, despite the fact that I most definitely did not fit his profile. It’s unsettling to be so close — too close — to news.
