Living at the Jersey shore, we have hurricanes every so often, which are never fun, one year Halloween even got postponed lol. BUT one time, there was this like "once in a lifetime" storm that rolled through called a Derecho. Trees looked like they were fighting each other and the sky was filled with colorful lightning like nothing we had ever seen before. The aftermath was insane - no power for days, you couldn't drive anywhere with the amount of debris on the ground for miles. 

Have been through two tornadoes, actually! Both times at a restaurant. You haven't lived until you've had to huddle on the floor of a McDonald's basement. 

At our house in Oak Island North Carolina, three of us were on the covered porch watching a typical thunderstorm rolling. All of a sudden the hair on our arms stood on end and some stray hairs on our heads were pulled to the sky too. We looked at each other like what the fuck is gonna happ  — and then BOOM. About 25 feet in front of us lightning struck the sand on the beach. It was the brightest thing I had ever seen and frankly it was terrifying. I still get scared thinking about it!

We were in NYC for superstorm Sandy and had the bright idea to go for a walk outside and see what was happening. Once we saw the actual front of a building collapse and street signs blowing towards us, we decided to return home. Bad idea.

A blizzard that knocked out the power for a week and internet for two

In Florida we usually just have hurricane parties but back in the day when we had hurricane Wilma the phone lines were down there was no food in the store and the streets were flooded. I was young so to me it was really fun. They gave us army people food!

It is currently partly cloudy and 50 degrees in NYC. Yet, three separate times today, for two minutes at a time, the sun was interrupted by unexpected hail. Spring is one helluva time. 

What’s the craziest weather event you’ve seen? Have you ever been in a tornado? Rode out a hurricane? Stuck in a raging blizzard? 

For me, it’s growing up in Minnesota having never seen a tornado, only to see one randomly on the Jersey Shore two years ago. How? 🌪
