Donate to a charity in their name. Bonus if it’s a cause they care about. Because ..

1) you don’t have to disclose how much it’s for. Just say a “small donation has been made in their name.” That could be $2 or $20 or $200. Who’s to say!

Digital gift cards are of course the lowest-hanging fruits. But not everyone loves gift cards — I know some think they’re thoughtless, so just make sure you do your research on the recipient. 

If they want something tangible, you can never go wrong with a succulent. 

If you don’t want to give something intimate I’m huge on gift cards. No one knows better what a person wants than the person themself

Experiences are always nice--- is there some place that this person loves to visit?  Maybe a yearly membership or a tickets to a special exhibit somewhere.

How about a plant subscription? I have one with Horti and I love it! But I know The Sill has one as well. Brings a little greenery into someone's life. 

You could also donate on their behalf to The Human Fund. 

After reading the comments I just need to say, I would hate if someone donated to charity in my name...wasn't there a whole Seinfeld episode about that?? Unless you are 100% sure of a charity that is near and dear to them, to me it comes off like you didn't want to get them a "real" present.
