It has come to my attention, dear reader, that a certain member of royalty, whose wigs are as high as the Empire State Building, is getting her very own show. And I for one, am elated! I have done nothing except mope around with melancholy since bingeing the second season. To get me out my current state, I need as much Regency romance in my life as possible.
But for real, I don't know how I missed this news when it dropped back in May of last year, but I am very excited. Queen Charlotte is iconic. So naturally I had to find out everything there was to know about said spin-off. Let's get into it!
The Plot
An official press release stated that the show will be "centered on Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton." Variety also said that "along with delving into the origin story of Queen Charlotte, the limited series will also follow young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury." So hopefully we will get the love story of the latter two characters as well.
The Cast
Below is the casting that was included in the official press release:
Filming
Production has started! Shonda Rhimes took to her instagram to post a picture from the table read. She even wrote the first episode herself...
The Bridgerton Instagram account also posted pictures of the cast at this table read as well:
Release Date
No date has been set, but going off this past season of Bridgerton, filming started in March 2021 and it was released in March 2022. So we probably can expect it sometime in Spring 2023. With filming for Bridgerton season three starting this summer, sounds like we could be getting back to back shows.
