I would assume that the worst case is that they're too conservative, not too drastic. I like that it's under supervision, too. Would be cool to hear how a pro directs a rookie!

Has she showed you styles she's done in the past with others? I think if you're looking for a trim, there's probably no harm done, unless she's wanting to do something more drastic. Free haircut — so fun! 

Definitely! Do it. I have some friends who have gone through school and needed someone to practice on — it always looks great because they're EXTRA cautious to do it right. Plus, like you said, there's a pro/supervisor right there watching every cut! 

NYC hair salons are so expensive — don't look a gift horse in the mouth, Everything! 

ask questions about how much experience she has cutting curly hair (it's def an experienced technique!)

what is the expected outcome (trim, color, treatment, etc...) how will the results be used (pics on wed, portfolio, grading, etc...) 

and come to an agreement on how not to be upset with each other when it's all over (maybe a code word if you are uncomfortable?)

I have to start this off by saying I have curly hair and I'm usually very picky about who cuts my hair. That being said, a friend of mine (someone I've known for 10+ years) just graduated from hair school and is doing free cuts to gain experience. I'm really tempted because A) I need a haircut B) Haircuts in NYC are expensive! C) I want to support my friend! I wouldn't be getting a crazy style, plus they are supervised with an experienced stylist at the salon.

But yet I still feel kind of hesitant!! Should I take the plunge and go for it? Hair grows back...right?
