I actually totally agree. I only really like pregnancies when the person isn’t supposed to be pregnant. I think one of the shows that did it well for me was on friends where Rachel was pregnant and they didn’t know who the father was and even after she had Emma it didn’t just focus around her and Ross being parents to Emma it was a chefs kiss

You are definitely not the only one. Such a crutch that forced the couple to be faced with a Difficult Life Moment just to preserver. I hate it more in dramas than in comedies though. Movie/book franchises LOVE this by the third installment. 

I only enjoy this when it is a watershed moment, like in I Love Lucy, when it was taboo to  even show that Lucy and Ricky slept in the same bed,  all the hassle incorporating her pregnancy into the plot, and even using the word pregnancy. Totally agree with you though, generally a lazy plot device.

A pregnancy on a show is a surefire sign the writers are running out of ideas. A baby on a show has never improved the series. Sorry, babies. (But not really.) 

Oh yes. It is so uncreative. I know it can be sweet (like in Brooklyn 99), but they’re so predictable at this point. I would love to see more post-marriage/get together plotlines that revolve around the actual transition. There’s so much room for creativity there. 

I will never understand why so many shows insist on introducing a pregnancy storyline right after a will-they-won’t-they couple gets together. We spend several seasons watching said couple court one another; why not spend time after they’re together exploring that new normal? Why leap immediately to pregnancy, just to introduce a dramatic arc/precocious child? 

Zoe/Wade in Hart of Dixie, Schmidt/CeCe in New Girl, Jim/Pam in The Office, just to name a few. It’s become such a lazy and obvious plot device, particularly since the end result is so formulaic and predictable. 

Am I alone in groaning whenever a TV character announces a pregnancy?
