What about the early seasons of "The Real World"?

This isn't a reality show, but I think Requiem for a Dream should be required viewing. I would actively run AWAY from any sort of drug after watching it. 

As for reality show, I actually think Big Brother is a fascinating look at human behavior. It's as close to a Lord of the Flies we'll get, and the fact that you can watch it unedited really shows an interesting look into humanity. 

I really liked "Twenty Somethings Austin" on Netflix. It wasn't totally about partying and hooking up, but also about friendships and trying to make it in the world. Was really refreshing actually.

The snob in me would say “An American Family,” the first official reality series, aired by PBS decades ago. 

The trash in me would say “Joe Millionaire.” 

I think Love Island could spark some interesting discussion about sex, love, sexism, and strategy.
