Ryan Murphy finally dropped the trailer for Impeachment: American Crime Story, and in a stunning twist it turns out the main character isn't Beanie Feldstein's Monica Lewinsky, Sarah Paulson's Linda Tripp, or Clive Owen's Bill Clinton. No, the real stars of Impeachment: American Crime Story are the prosthetics.
Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story anthology has always had a thing for wigs and elaborate makeup — see Paulson's Marcia Clark wig and John Travolta's extensive Robert Shapiro transformation in The People v. O.J. Simpson. But, and I say this with nothing but love and respect in my heart, Impeachment takes the prosthetics to a whole new level.
What's so frustrating about the overwhelming prosthetics is how eerily accurate some of the casting is. Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky? A perfect match! Even without prosthetics, just the wig and makeup are enough to make Feldstein look like the former White House intern. But the rest...well, let's just say there's a clear winner and loser when it comes to the Impeachment prosthetics.
The Bad: Clive Owen As Bill Clinton
Hollywood Hottie™ Clive Owen as...Bill Clinton? That's gonna take some getting used to. I'm sorry, but even the mountains of prosthetics cannot make this casting work. There's something about the brow that's off, not to mention the jawline, and the fact that it's Clive fucking Owen.
I just...who is this supposed to be? No shade to the makeup artists, but there's only so much prosthetics can do. In Clive Owen's case, no matter how good the makeup is, he can't not look like a man wearing a Bill Clinton rubber Halloween mask melted onto his face.
