I have truly always loved Paris Hilton. Growing up as a tween girl, Paris was the definition of "Hollywood" to me. She was a true icon by all accounts. The fashion, the purse-sized dog (RIP Tinkerbell), and the catchphrase, not to mention the reality TV show. Circle 2003, The Simple Life was everything to me. I got such a kick out of watching Paris and Nicole Ritchie live as pared down as possible. Because of my love for that show, I couldn't wait for Paris to once again grace my screen with her new Netflix show, Cooking With Paris.
Not only do we see Paris in action in the kitchen in the new series, out now on Netflix, but we, once again, see her performing menial tasks that us normal folks do a daily basis: not being able to find the tongs (also not knowing what tongs are), cleaning the kitchen after making French toast, accidentally making the knob come off the stove and then having to put it back on yourself, you know, the everyday, boring stuff we all do.
While some things have certainly changed since the early aughts when The Simple Life was on, a few things are forever. Specifically grocery stores. Grocery stores are forever, and Paris Hilton in them, shopping, remains to be so scene-stealing, I decided to compare the then and now. Enjoy this walk down the Memory Lane /Bread Aisle as much as I did.
Outfits
The Simple Life
Paris is giving us transparent, useless sunglasses and flare jeans that were so low, the show had to black out her butt crack.
Cooking With Paris
While slightly more covered up, Paris still one for grocery store outfits with little practicality. At least she's masked up!
Budget
The Simple Life
Budget is everything in The Simple Life. And in the first episode, alone, Nicole and Paris are forced to leave some items behind (like apple juice, which wasn't on the list but Paris just wanted it) because they didn't have enough money to buy them.
Cooking With Paris
The limit does not exist. Paris can have as much cereal as she wants.
Navigating Aisles
The Simple Life
Directionless and scared, Paris has to find the canned pigs' feet in the small town market.
Cooking With Paris
Not much has changed. Paris is still looking for the items on her grocery list.
Cart Pushing
The Simple Life
While meandering the aisles, Paris offloads cart-pushing duties onto Nicole.
Cooking With Paris
She simply doesn't have time to not be the captain of her own cart.
Pig Products
The Simple Life
The still says it all, but Paris could not even bear to hold the jar of pigs' feet.
Cooking With Paris
She's here for the bacon.
Off-List Items
The Simple Life
With a limited budget, Paris has to leave some things not on her grocery list behind.
Cooking With Paris
Paris can have whatever she damn wants, especially when it works with her aesthetics.
Carry With Care
The Simple Life
In the show, Paris throws the groceries in the back of the truck with a heavy hand (those poor eggs).
Cooking With Paris
I'm not convinced Paris packed these bags herself (they're very pristine), but the caution and the care she uses by even entertaining a cart matters.
We love a comeback story that takes place in a grocery store.
