In part one of my interview with The Bold Type creator Sarah Watson, we talked all about what it was like pitching, writing, and working on the series. In part two, we dive into the series itself and chat about the moment she saw the pilot for the first time, her relationship with the cast and with Joanna Coles, and I discover that she named one of the characters after me. Hi, I'm Katrina Sophia, aka Kat.
And in case you're wondering, Sarah is totally a Jane. Totally a Jane!
OK, enjoy part two!
Katrina Sophia for The Dipp: What attracted you most to creating a show around Scarlet, aka Cosmo, and its staff?
Sarah Watson: For me it's such wish-fulfillment. I've always wanted to do a show like this. I was a huge The Devil Wears Prada fan, and the whole magazine industry I find so interesting. But nobody has ever really been able to crack a magazine show in the past because the problem is that magazines... there's no urgency because everything is done two months ahead of time.
One of the biggest surprises to me was when I went into Cosmo and I saw their flat plan on the wall and it's like, it was the issue for two months from then. But now, because so much has to be done on the internet and so much is online, you can have urgency, you can have that newsroom feeling of, we gotta get the story.
