While other Americans were barbecuing and setting off fireworks to celebrate July 4, I was fulfilling my patriotic duty in a different way: marathoning all of Sex/Life Season 1. The show originally premiered on June 25, and the week of buzz promised me sex scenes — and full frontal male nudity — the likes of which I'd never seen. But, as the least sexy sexy moments in Sex/Life prove, not everything is as it seems.
Look, I get it. Everyone in Sex/Life, from frustrated housewife Billie to her straight-laced husband, to the daring ex, to the outgoing bestie, is sexy. They're all hot and perfectly molded to fit into all your fantasies. But that doesn't necessarily mean that everything they do in the show is sexy. In fact, some of the "sexy" scenes in this show are just downright nasty — and not in a good way. And these are the worst of the worst.
The FaceTime
Billie might have been into this, but, uh, Brad's decision to secretly film him and Sasha having sex as a way to tease Billie was incredibly unattractive. Not to sound like your freshman year orientation, but CONSENT IS SEXY. Sure, Sasha was cool with it when she found out, but consent after the fact isn't actually how that works.
"But, girl, it's supposed to be a show about sexual fantasies, where consent can be more malleable," you say? OK, but why is it sexy for a man to seduce your best friend and FaceTime you? It's not the sexual act itself that isn't sexy, but the motivations behind it. Brad is just using Sasha to get to Billie, and it's not OK or hot.
