Pete Davidson’s SNL privilege

I read an interesting Reddit thread about Pete Davidson, and his privilege as an SNL cast member who, externally at least, appeared to work the least:

SNL is notoriously a difficult workplace, and one that demands nearly 24/7 commitment, something that Pete didnt quite seem put in. (You often don’t even see him at Goodnight.) Though it’s not confirmed, it seems Pete was the first cast member to be allowed to leave part of the season for his projects outside of SNL (while filming King Of Staten Island), a privilege some cast members have had to leave the show entirely to enjoy.

It could be that this is simply a new era of SNL — one in which cast members are encouraged to seek pet projects. It could be healthy, but it could also mean we can expect large casts to continue to accommodate the absences.
