You should never trust a man named Chadwick Gekko; this much seems obvious in life. Then again, Veronica Lodge has been known to put on blinders when it comes to the men in her life, so, it's not surprising that she would be Mrs. Gekko seven years after graduating high school. So far, details about Chadwick have been kept secret, but a new clue from showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa suggests that whatever Veronica's husband is up to on Riverdale, it can't be good.
In January, when it was announced that Chris Mason would be joining Riverdale as Veronica's husband, Chad, The CW described the character as "an Alpha Dog" who works on Wall Street. Has a character description ever screamed "pretentious jerk" so loudly? And based on Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's newest Instagram post, it looks like Chadwick isn't just a pompous asshole, he's criminal.
Sharing an image of Chadwick and Veronica kissing on Riverdale late Monday, Feb. 8, Aguirre-Sacasa wrote in part, "It's truly strange to see Veronica kissing anyone other than her beloved Archiekins. Keep your eye on the Glamerge eggs, #Riverdale jumps ahead seven years in less than two days!" This might sound pretty innocuous, but if there's one thing the showrunner is an expert in, it's leaving coded Riverdale messages on Instagram and Twitter.
The mention of the "Glamerge eggs" is especially suss. The Glamerge egg — Riverdale's spin on the famous Fabergé eggs — hasn't been a plot point on the show for years. It was one of Hiram Lodge's prized possessions that was stolen in Season 3. He was so desperate to get it back, he blackmailed Veronica to do it, and ended up with it smashed to pieces in his office. So, why bring it up now?
