Wait, Do Cheryl & Toni Get Married In The 'Riverdale' Jump?

Like every other couple in the town of Riverdale, Cheryl and Toni broke up in Wednesday's episode "Graduation." Toni went off to college and Cheryl decided to stay in Riverdale and rebuild the Blossom family legacy. (Which may require a few generations, but cheers, Cheryl!) Things seemed over between them — no one was on a break here. So consider me quite confused when in a new Riverdale trailer it appeared as though Toni and Cheryl could married. (Hear me out!)

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa seemingly confirmed that the Choni breakup would be permanent when he announced that Drew Ray Tanner (Fangs) was being promoted to series regular in Season 5. "We're thrilled to have him joining us for Season 5 as a series regular, living with on-again, off-again boyfriend Kevin Keller and Serpent Queen Toni Topaz," Aguirre-Sacasa said on Sept. 30, 2020. Fans immediately thought that meant that Cheryl and Toni wouldn't be together when Season 5 picked up after the time jump, but thanks to the newest trailer, I'm not so sure.

The trailer reveals a lot about what the town of Riverdale looks like seven years after graduation. For one thing, it looks like Mayor Hiram Lodge has dissolved the city (who knew that was a thing!), and Toni is doing her best to keep the community together. The promo also teases Archie's homecoming, the inevitable reunion of Betty, Archie, Veronica, and Jughead, Archie beating some leather-wearing thugs in his old house, and Betty being attacked by a masked chainsaw killer. So not much has changed!
