Yes, Ross Butler Just Returned To 'Riverdale' As Reggie

The final episode of Riverdale's Rivervale event series, "The Jughead Paradox," reunited fans with long lost characters, like the missing-in-action Ethel and the deceased Jason Blossom, who, despite being murdered before the events of the pilot episode, had a permanent impact on the lives of the Riverdale gang. Yet it was one character who fans likely never thought they would see again, even in the form of flashbacks. That, my friends, is Riverdale's old Reggie.

When I say "old Reggie," I mean the Reggie as played by Ross Butler, who left the show after portraying the classic Archie Comics character in the first season. At the time, Butler starred on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why as well as Riverdale, and, due to shooting conflicts, was unable to maintain a significant role on both shows. While the option was available for Butler to continue on both Riverdale and 13 Reasons Why, he would have to reduce his screen time in order to make the dual jobs work.

Ultimately, Butler decided to forego his role on The CW series in order to pursue a bigger storyline on 13 Reasons Why, telling Vulture, "Reggie’s a great character, but it’s a different tone. I connected with Zach on a much more real level where I didn’t have to create so much of a character for him. Reggie’s more outspoken, like that jock archetype."
