In this case,  it seems to me that he was just naturally progressing the convo. Start on text, move to calls, and then to Facetime to mimic an in-person experience. It's possible he's trying to see whether they would vibe during an actual date, and,  if they didn't vibe during Facetime, they could avoid the awkwardness of a bad in-person experience. 

That said, I thought only my great aunts and uncles actually use Facetime, so it's confusing that a young person would. 

FaceTiming without warning is weird, however, giving him the benefit of the doubt, it can be a PITA to go back and forth via text trying to make plans. But I don’t like the call on demand…it seems pushy?

I'm starting to think FaceTiming is just what people do now instead of call?? I only overhear/see people on FaceTime in the park or out and about, not on the phone. It's so weird. My cousins who are teens only and exclusively FaceTime. It's a trend I want no part of.

He should have asked her to facetime before calling her on it. I have facetime before a date just to make sure the person I am talking to is legit.

If I got a blind FaceTime, I would assume it were a mistake, and be so distracted picking up that I wouldn’t even clock the conversation. 

FaceTime people are an odd bunch — who wants to call someone on the least flattering camera in existence? I wouldn’t say this is a red flag, necessarily, but this might be an eccentric person that she has to suss out more. 

My friend was recently telling me about a man she matched with on a dating app. She said they hit it off, and quickly moved to texting. After a few days of chatting, they decided to meet in person (nice!). Here’s where things get interesting…

To schedule date, this guy FACETIMED her to plan it. Now, she found this to be very weird, and kind of invasive. I thought it showed he was being proactive — but perhaps a bit nosey. Was he trying to scope out what she looked like? Is he just an overcommunicator? Is this a red flag? (Keep in mind, this was a blind facetime, it was not discussed beforehand like “Cool! I’ll FT you this week to plan!“)
