Yes! I think you’re totally right in your reasoning. I’d also add that being single when one of your friends is single also lessens the fear around a break up. I’ve definitely seen this pattern over the years in my friend group!

Absolutely. They aren’t contagious in the sense that people do it just because their friends are — it’s because they see their friends have the courage to do something they have been meaning or hoping to do. 

Are breakups contagious? You might laugh at the question but, I have three friends who have recently broken up with their significant other in the past four months. As far as I was concerned they were all very happy in their relationship. But when the first friend broke up with her partner the others started to see concern in their own relationships. Whether it be just talking about their friends former relationship and the red flags that brought up their own issues I don’t know. But it made me wonder, are break up contagious? 

Is this a completely crazy question, maybe,  but there must be some truth to seeing your friends and their own relationships end that plant a seed in your own head to make a decision that perhaps you were brushing under the rug for sometime.
