I feel like that's part of the charm of dating someone who isn't a native speaker of the same language, and I'm sure he feels the same way with you! Listening to them go off about something in their first language and just laughing and smiling along with them and understanding it through their passion. 

If it's truly difficult to understand him and causing miscommunications, perhaps just ask him to slow down and repeat himself or ask questions that give you the context you need! Buena suerte! 

Have Google translate handy, and tell him to teach you fun words and phrases. It can be a bonding tool! 

I live in south Florida. So it’s literally a melting pot of every ethnicity nationality religion race gender you can think of. Which is a part of the reason I never want to leave. I’ve gotten used to deciphering Spanish, jamaican, and Israeli language without speaking a drop of the native tongues. But I’m talking to this Italian guy and I want to get to know him better but half of the time on FaceTime I have no idea what he’s saying. I just nod and laugh even when he keeps repeating something. I’d say 70% of his English is perfect but God that 30% I’m just like WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! Has anyone dated someone with a really heavy accent do you have any tips and I cannot learn another language I can’t face the Duolingo owl so please do not suggest that
