I do wonder who it’s for — on Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, you theoretically could be posting something for your parent to see, if you think that might bring them joy or if you communicate on IG. (Of course, it’s also important to be conscious of how that makes those without parents feel.)

But on Valentine’s Day… who is it for? I certainly hope conversation between SOs exist outside of social media, so what is the ultimate purpose of it?

I think IG Stories is where it's at in terms of what is appropriate. But let's keep the main feed clean from that for folks who don't want to see the PDA. 

On the other hand, a friend of mine posted a pic of herself and a burrito to share that she was newly single, which I thought was funny and a good way to share that she and her bf have broken up. 

I... get it? I guess you technically get two days a year when you can brag/shout from the rooftops about how much you love your partner: Valentine's day and their birthday. It's not my style, but I understand that some people love to share their love, and yes, I do see it as a flex, but that's what IG is for, so I don't begrudge.

What?! No way. Keep the love fest coming  all year long. If you think someone posts too much, unfollow them. 

That said, I did not post a photo of my husband and I on Valentine’s Day… but I would and probably have in other years. 

I honestly think that some people go a little overboard with the posts throughout the year, I don't need to see your husband or boyfriend treat you to $5 apps at Applebees for date night, or if your partner brings you a coffee. So, I find Valentine's Day really the only acceptable day to hype up your partner this publicly. But I also love Valentine's Day and if my boyf didnt post me... I'd be irrationally angry.  

I don't mind it. it's just how people are on social media — if couples get one day to post something sappy and cheesy with everyone else using the same hashtag, go for it! If that is what brings you joy, I can't complain! Now... the real TRAGEDY is when people post a photo of them and their date at a wedding and say "Had so much fun celebrating the beautiful couple! congrats mr and mrs. XYZ" and the beautiful couple is nowhere to be seen. THAT is criminal and rude.

This is a bit cynical, but it’s always interesting seeing the couples who go through the most then pretend to be OK on Valentine’s Day. And I’ll leave it at that

Like, what are you trying to prove? Why do you have to trigger all single people? Why can’t you just tell your SO you love them to their face? Since when does a public post prove intimacy?

On the flip side, V-day photos with your pets is 100 percent acceptable and delightful. 

Posting an IG couples photo on Valentine’s Day is just rude
